Layer Cage Buying Guide
1 Choose Your Cage Type
A-type cages are ideal for farms with 5,000-30,000 birds. They offer easier manual access and lower upfront cost. H-type cages suit large operations (20,000+ birds) with higher density and full automation capability.
2 Calculate Bird Capacity
Each cage tier houses 40-64 birds depending on cell size. Multiply tiers × doors × birds per cell for total capacity. A 4-tier, 5-door A-type holds approximately 160 birds.
3 Plan Your Automation Level
Start with manual feeding and nipple drinkers for under 10,000 birds. Add chain feeding systems at 10,000-20,000 birds. Full automation with egg belts and manure scrapers is recommended above 20,000 birds.
4 Match to Your House Dimensions
A-type cages need minimum 3m house width. H-type needs 2.5m minimum. Ceiling height should be at least 2.8m for 4-tier systems and 3.5m for 8-tier H-type systems.
